ABOUT

Our Mission

Our goal is to further develop the partnership between NRCS and NMSU with the primary goal of strengthening the USDA-NRCS diversity recruitment mission. We aim to help address Hispanic under representation in the NRCS workforce by increasing the number of Hispanic College students that qualify and compete for the Pathways Internship and Recent Graduate program. Our ultimate objective is to prepare NMSU students for careers with the USDA-NRCS.

How can we accomplish our goal?

Educational workshops and activities will offer students developmental techniques and tools in reasoning ability, self-confidence, goal-setting, leadership development and agricultural knowledge in conservation management and technology trends.

Specific workshops will facilitate student understanding of the Pathways program, learning how to apply through USAJOBS, and how to build a competitive application to better compete for NRCS internships and permanent jobs.

Who can apply?

Students with interest of declared majors that include Agronomy, Soil Science, Range Science, Plant Pathology, Civil or Environmental Engineering, Ecosystem Management, Agricultural Biology/Management, Biological Science, Wildlife Biology, Geology, Hydrology, Watershed Management, Forestry, and Air Quality.

NRCS Mission and Vision

"NRCS is an agency committed to 'helping people help the land'-- our mission is to provide resources to farmers and landowners to aid them with conservation. Ensuring productive lands in harmony with a healthy environment is our priority. "
